A Visit to Goofy’s Candy Company

Friday, April 16, 2010

With all there is to do at Walt Disney World, why would a trip to a candy shop be so special?  Well, this isn’t your ordinary candy shop.  Not only do they serve some of the most delectable treats in Disney World, but it’s also run by one of the main characters you’ll find in the theme parks; Goofy.  His candy shop, Goofy’s Candy Company, is a wonderful place to visit when you need a sweet treat, or quick sugar rush at the end of a long day in the theme parks.

There once was a day when Goofy promoted health.  His attraction “Goofy about Health” located in the now empty Wonders of Life pavilion at EPCOT was a fan favorite.  Not only that, but you’re likely to see Goofy’s image in many of the sports venues and sports shops throughout the Disney property.  Well, true to his name, Goofy has pulled a complete 180 degree turn and has decided to be the face of Disney’s candy making efforts.  Goofy’s face appears on much of the pre-packaged candy in all of the candy shops across property.  He’s also very busy around Halloween time when the Magic Kingdom hosts Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  It’s Goofy’s Candy Company that provides all the candy passed out at this Halloween event.  He’s so popular at this party that you will see him at the end of the “Boo to You” parade on his candy-making tricycle.

Goofy’s Candy Company opened in April of 2005 and is located at the Marketplace in Downtown Disney.  The shop exudes a very colorful atmosphere because of all the various homemade and pre-packaged candy you will find inside.  Cast Members inside the candy company are dressed appropriately with colorful outfits to promote the theme of candy making inside a candy factory.  It makes sense because these same Cast Members are the people who make some of the homemade treats you will find in the candy display cases.

Families can find Goofy’s Candy Company to be a fun experience.  Some of the candy activities inside the store are interactive.  Your family may choose to walk through the bulk candy area and pick from many different candy favorites.  Also, you’ll find a slushy bar where you can choose from various frozen flavors.  If you are more adventurous you may choose to mix your flavors for a different, more unexpected taste.  In the back of the store you will find a birthday party room where families and friends can gather for a birthday bash complete with delicious treats from the candy shop.

Inside Goofy’s Candy Company you will discover most of the candy sold across Disney World property.  You will also see some unique treats not sold anywhere else. Inside the candy display cases you’ll see assortments of fudge, cupcakes, and large cookies.  Prices for the treats can range from $1 to $5 per piece depending on the size and variety.  The bulk candy is priced per pound; while the pre-packaged candy has a set price.

There is no seating inside Goofy’s Candy Company.  There is seating outside of the sweet shop.  Our family likes to take our treats over to the newly revamped Dockside stage venue located across from the World of Disney store.  There are plenty of other areas at the Downtown Disney Marketplace where you can enjoy your sweets.  Guests may even prefer to bring their sweets back to their resort hotel.

Some guests may only visit Goofy’s Candy Company when they are already at Downtown Disney.  But, for other families who know how enjoyable Goofy’s Candy Company truly is, they will make a special visit to Downtown Disney specifically for one of the best sweet treat experiences on Disney World property.   Whatever you decide, make sure not to miss one of the best sweet treat opportunities at Walt Disney World.  It’s a sweet adventure for the entire family.
