Even though Walt Disney World is the number 1 family destination in the world it can be a grind. Some guests may think their upcoming Disney vacation will be filled with rest and relaxation. I’ve got news for those guests; it’s probably not going to happen. Once you arrive at Disney World you need to move (walk a lot) in order to experience the many attractions. However, you shouldn’t feel totally defeated. There are ways to stop and “smell the roses” while still seeing a good portion of Walt Disney World.
Those families who travel to the theme park giant quickly realize walking is a large part of getting from place to place. Taking the necessary precautions to make sure your feet and legs are as comfortable as possible is key to planning your vacation. After all, you’re going to a place with 4 theme parks, a huge shopping, dining, and entertainment district, and a good number of mega resort hotels. You are going to move and walk around quite a bit.
During the spring, summer, and fall months the heat and humidity can also wear you down. Not only do your muscles ache, but the heat and humidity tire you quickly. After a half day in the theme parks you simply need a break. Some guests may choose to head back to their resort for an afternoon swim or nap to recharge their batteries. Other guests may choose to stick it out in a theme park for the entire day. It’s your vacation and you can manage your time how you wish.
There is another alternative when grabbing a quick break after many hours in a theme park when your feet and legs are hurting and you simply need to cool down. Consider taking a ride on several of the Disney World transportation options. Even if your plan doesn’t include moving from one theme park to another, or hopping from resort hotel to resort hotel simply riding on one of the many transportation vehicles is a great way to kick back, relax, and enjoy the great scenery at Disney World.
With so many transportation options at Disney World its best we narrow them down to my personal top 5. These are, in my opinion, the best transportation methods for taking a break and relaxing either with family or just by yourself.
Number 5 – The Friendship Boats between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios
Great views of Disney’s Boardwalk resort area await you as you ride between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios through Crescent Lake. You will make stops along the way at the Boardwalk resort, Yacht & Beach Club resort, and the Swan & Dolphin resort.
Number 4 – The Magic Kingdom Railroad
A slow moving train ride that takes you around the outside of the Magic Kingdom. You will feel like you’ve been transported back to the early 1900s as you make stops at various lands in the Magic Kingdom Park.
Number 3 – The monorail loop around the Magic Kingdom resort area
Disney’s iconic monorail system is highlighted through the Magic Kingdom resort area as it circles the Seven Seas Lagoon. There’s plenty of leg room and air conditioning to go around. The monorail makes stops at the Polynesian Resort, Grand Floridian resort, The Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary Resort, and the Transportation and Ticket Center.
Number 2 – The Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover
A myriad of connected cars moves guests through Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. There are a couple of great views of Cinderella’s Castle. You will also ride through Space Mountain and a few other dark tunnels where you can grab a quick shot of A/C to cool you down.
Number 1 – The monorail between the TTC and EPCOT
One of the best rides in all of Walt Disney World. You will see great views outside the parks of Disney’s forests and natural wetlands. Also included in your trip is 2 minutes worth of free admission into EPCOT. You will circle high above EPCOT’s Future World where you will see great views of the crowds and attractions below.
No matter how you choose to relax at Walt Disney World grabbing a ride on the many transportation options is a great way to stretch out, cool down, and enjoy some great scenery. Disney World is notorious for playing with our senses. Why not take advantage of the many great sights and sounds while you move through Disney World on their famous transportation vehicles. After walking around for 5 or 6 hours in the hot Florida sun who wouldn’t want to get off their feet, jump on a moving vehicle, and simply relax for a while? It’s a great way to talk with family, plan the rest of your day, meet new people, cool down, and simply rest before the end of your day. So, “sit back, relax, and let Disney do the driving, you’ll be “home” soon.”
Next Up: Resort hopping continues at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
