Pigs in Space

We’ll stay in Muppetvision 3D this week and look at another Muppets reference in the preshow area of the attraction. Like last week, this week’s article looks at a hidden gem of the Muppets but this one ought to be much easier for guests to recall. Above the guests and dangling from the ceiling are two items from the golden age of the Muppets.

These two theme elements refer to a classic Muppet Show skit that was quite popular when it originally aired and even today many remember.

The first odd looking spacecraft is the vessel from the Muppet Show "Pigs in Space". A parody of Star Trek and Lost in Space (among others) featuring Captain Link Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy, and Dr. Julius Strangepork leading a crew of pigs aboard the ship Swinetrek. The skit was a recurring series for the Muppet Show and was a real hit.

Behind the Swinetrek is a poster for the series that features the three lead pigs along with "Dearth Nadir" atop the poster. Dearth Nadir was a spoof of Darth Vader and played by Gonzo in Season 4 of the Muppet Show. In the episode, the evil Dearth Nadir attacks the Swinetrek with his band of chicken stormtroopers. While the Muppet Show series is sadly long gone, the reference to this classic show and skit lives on in the preshow area for those who remember it to enjoy.
