Inside Mickey’s of Hollywood

When the Disney-MGM Studios opened, there were many references to the humble beginnings of Walt Disney and other facets of the Disney company.  One such homage comes inside the Mickey’s of Hollywood store on Hollywood Boulevard.  The store is home to all sorts of Disney merchandise and as the name implies, it’s named after the big cheese himself, Mickey Mouse.

Inside the store, you will find statues and decorations that continue the theme of the store by paying tribute to Mickey’s beginning as a star.  As you walk into the store from the park entrance, you are greeted with a large Mickey Mouse statue donning the same outfit he famously first wore in his cartoon debut in "Steamboat Willie".

Along the walls are more decorations that too are from the Steamboat Willie film…

All these Steamboat Willie decorations serve to remind guests of Mickey’s beginning and like other references in the Studios, Steamboat Willie’s debut in 1928 would be in line with the 1940’s feel of Hollywood Boulevard as the film would have been barely 15 years old and the film’s impact of being the first Mickey Mouse cartoon with sound and became a symbol of what animation could do in that time.
