Over the weekend I brought out my copy of Tower of Terror the movie from back in the day. It stars Steve Guttenberg (Buzzy) as a reporter who is looking for a better story to write about and Kirsten Dunst (Anna) as his niece who likes to hang out with him and help out. It is a quirky story about a scary event that took place at the Hollywood Hotel on Halloween night in 1939. Sound familiar? You know the one about the five people that get onto an elevator. (Insert scary voice here…)
Parts of it have the quality of your regular kid’s movie but some parts can be sort of scary. I loved how they filmed some of the movie scenes at the Tower of Terror in the Hollywood Studios in Orlando as well as a sound stage in California. I think it is cool how the lobby looks so much like the queue we get to walk through to ride the attraction. It was interesting to see how they took the story line and went into details of the mystery of that fateful night. I don’t want to go into too much detail to give anything away but there are some twists and turns to this adventure that Buzzy and Anna embark on.
This was one of the first movies that Disney made based on an attraction in one of their theme parks. I know that this movie can be dated in some parts but overall I really enjoyed it. It is worth a watch especially if you love the Tower of Terror attraction itself.
