Stop the presses, hold everything, listen to this bombshell: it's hot in Florida in the summer.
Okay, so that isn't news at all but this summer seems extra hot and despite the high temperatures and humidity, I'm still visiting Hollywood Studios every week but I've been giving extra attention to ensuring I stay hydrated. If you have plans to visit Hollywood Studios this summer, there's some places inside the park you can go to more easily to get a quick drink and beat the heat.
One of my favorite tips is you can get a cup of ice water for free at any Hollywood Studios counter service restaurant. You just ask a Cast Member for a cup of ice water and they will give you a large cup of ice water filled to the top with cold tap water for free. When I want to take advantage of this service, my go-to place to get a cup of ice water is the Starring Rolls Bakery because of the ease of getting a drink.
Usually I can walk up to the drink station and ask the Cast Member for a drink. You can also order sodas from here but because of Starring Rolls central location, it's a great place to stop for a drink during the day.
For a few years now, Backlot Express has offered refillable drink stations so you can get your moneys worth out of our $2 soda cup. Until Disney follows through with their idea of limiting refills, it remains the best value for your drink. After all, when you're really parched, nothing beats that feeling of drinking as much soda as you want and then having plenty left for the rest of the meal.
I'm not advocating abusing the refill priviledge, but I like to drink to my hearts content without worrying about paying extra for more and Backlot Express is definitely the place for it.
While most experts would advocate staying hydrated with water or even some sports drinks, there are plenty of people who prefer to stay cool with a frozen adult beverage. Can't say I fault them so if you're in need of something cold, wet and has some alcohol, my favorite place is High Octane Refreshments, the drink stand "around the corner" from the Studio Catering Co.
You can get the usual assortment of beers that Walt Disney World offers along with some really good margaritas. While their margaritas come out of a machine, it's surprisingly tasty and has a kick to it.
I am inclined to give an honorable mention to the Tune-In Lounge, but it's often crowded in there so it's become more difficult to get a drink quickly.
No matter how hot someone gets, personal preference is still king so if you're picky about what you want to help cool down, here's a quick listing of the best places to get that special little drink to help you cool down.
