VIP on the ToT

Saturday, February 26, 2011

This was an experience I will always cherish at Disney's Hollywood Studios. It's one of those things that doesn't happen every trip, and might only ever happen this one time. But the extra magic that some Cast Members put in to guest's vacations is some of the best things that can happen on a Walt Disney World vacation.

It was June 2010 when Jess and I were at The World. Jess just finished her first-ever ride on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Needless to say she was a bit freaked out still, but was happy she accomplished something she didn't think she could have if I wasn't there with her, holding her hand tightly as we dropped in to the Twilight Zone.

We saw our picture, and then perused the gift shop where I bought a small token that showed my love for the Tower of Terror. It was one of those lanyards with a ticket attached that said, "Hollywood Tower Hotel VIP". I know it may be silly but I collected a couple of these throughout the trip, including one for Space Mountain that had my name on it. Jess has since graciously bought me the one for Rock 'n Roller Coaster too. They're fun to wear in the parks and hang in your room when you aren't at the most magical place on Earth. And I didn't think the "VIP" mention on my Tower of Terror ticket had much merit...until we left the gift shop and ended up outside the Fast Pass area for the Tower of Terror.

Two bellhops were taking photos with guests. Me, decked out with my "VIP" ticket for the Hollywood Tower Hotel, wouldn't miss the chance to take a photo with these Cast Members! Jess and I posed for a picture with the boys, one of whose name was Clayton. After the photo op, Clayton, in character, said in a dark tone, "VIP Guest, hmm? Well, we'll just have to give you the VIP treatment in that case! Care to follow me?"

I looked at Jess with a huge smiley face, telling her, "We're probably going to ride it again, and quickly, wanna do it?" Jess was a bit hesitant at first, seeing as she was still recovering from her first ride just moments ago. But I spoke up again, "this probably won't ever happen again!" She agreed, so Clayton the bellhop took us  through the giftshop and up the "chicken elevator" and BOOM! We rode the next elevator to The Twilight Zone.

It was amazingly nice of him. This is the kind of magic that only Disney has perfected so well. Clayton, if you read this, you rock - and you totally made our day at Disney's Hollywood Studios!
