In an effort to assist Walt Disney World guests that have special dietary needs, the Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney's Hollywood Studios is experimenting with a new interactive menu that is being tested starting today.

From February 22 through 28, the new interactive menu is, "designed to provide our Guests with visibility to personalize menu choices as well as information to better guide decisions."

Guests consult the menu and a chef will come out to the table to discuss the menu, the guests' selection and the special dietary needs that are required.

UPDATE: More info on this test....

Why are you introducing this new interactive menu?

Effective October 26, 2011, Walt Disney World will require guests to provide a credit card to hold a reservation at select restaurants.  If the guest fails to show up for the reservation and/or does not cancel at least one day in advance, Disney World will charge a penalty of $10 per person listed on the reservation.

There are a number of Signature Restaurants and Character Dining Restaurants but this new policy affects the following restaurants in Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Guests may cancel their reservations at any table service...

Last week Disney changed the menu at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant to an all-day menu and it turns out the 50's Prime Time Cafe has also had a changeover to an all-day menu so we poured over the menu changes to let you know what's new.

  • There used to be a lunch and dinner menu, but now the menu has been consolidated into just one menu for the whole day
  • Specialty Drink section is the same as it was for both menus and prices have remained the same

  • Blue Claw Crab Cake has gone up...

Disney has changed up the menu at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant so we looked over the new menu and compared it to the old menus and give you a quick run down of what's new, changed or the same.  Big thanks to Disney Food Blog for alerting us to this change!

We posted this morning a photo update of what's new in Hollywood Studios this week and I paid special attention to look at Disney's Hollywood Studios Restaurant Dining Menus to look for changes.  Sure enough, there's been a few changes to the menus since our last check so here's what's changed.

  • Barbecued Pulled Pork sandwich replaced with Barbecued Pork Sandwich
  • Turkey leg only removed from menu

Back in April, I blogged about Bucky Greenhorn leaving to join the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue ( http://www.studioscentral.com/blog/2011/04/15/studios-says-aloha-bucky-greenhorn    .. Bucky G)) I recently had the delightful opportunity to attend a dress rehearsal for another Hoop Dee Doo, to see some new changes to the show and some new faces, including that of Melvin Macheezmo! Now, before you get you knickers in a twist, let me calm you by saying Melvin is not moving in with his best friend Bucky and leaving Hollywood. He will still be roaming Sunset Boulevard, humoring guests and fawning after Miss Paige Turner. Melvin is joining the cast as a "sub" for the...

So you're on a seven day vacation to WDW, and by day four, you are starting to miss the comforts of home - and that includes the home-cooked meals! I can sympathize. My husband and I actually had this conversation on our most recent trip.
...but then we walked into the 50's Prime Time Cafe. There was suddenly this feeling of "Ah, we're home". Well, not our home - I should hope that our kitchen isn't adorned with 1950s memorabilia - but someone's home. At first glance, it could have been Frank and Marie's kitchen from Everybody Loves Raymond. But the point is, we didn't feel like we had stepped into another WDW restaurant.
We had a reservation, so we gave the Cast Member at the reception desk our names, and then sat down in a big enveloping couch...

I'm back... but reluctantly so! I'm never ready for a WDW trip to end. We had absolutely gorgeous weather for the first half of the week. No humidity at all. Then, on Thursday, it became uncomfortably hot, and it made us remember why we like our winter trips better!
Since my last post before I left was about my top 10 must-dos in Hollywood Studios, I thought I'd report back on which ones happened, and which did not, and what I thought of the ones that did!
10.Eating a Toluca Leg at Toluca Legs Turkey Co. on Sunset Boulevard. -- Sadly, my husband did not get to eat one this trip. The heat was intense on our day in the Studios and my 2 year-old daughter's patience was running out after a busy morning. We opted to head back to the resort for lunch there. I guess he will have to wait until September to sink his teeth into one of these again!
