Being involved in the Disney Internet community, you're likely to want to meet up with other fans and friends you may know from the Internet. The good news is the stigma associated with meeting people online is largely gone and I love to say hi to folks and if you're looking to organize a meet in Disney's Hollywood Studios, here are some great places to meet your future friends.
Here is our criteria for choosing locations for meets. We think these are important to a being condusive to a good meet and therefore, what we need for each location.
- Indoors: Weather in Florida is anything but predictable so let's eliminate the possibility of it raining or being too hot/cold.
- Ample space: There should be plenty of room for people to congregate.
- Seating available: While everyone doesn't need a chair, it would be nice if most people can sit.
- Not impacting other guests: No...
Earlier in April, the opportunity to visit Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater and Finn McMissile (Cars 2) arose during their "Agents on a Mission" Cars Tour 2011 (Presented by State Farm). Since I know how much my daughter loved meeting McQueen and Mater on our most recent trip to the Studios, I thought it would be worth checking out. After all, how often do you get a chance to visit these beloved Pixar characters in your hometown? As this tour is travelling through the U.S. until June 24, I thought it might be helpful to discuss whether or not it's worth the trek and the long lines to see these characters on tour.
So I loaded my two kids up in the van, along with my friend and her daughter, and off we went on our half hour drive to the mall where our Cars friends were going to be appearing that day. The first thing that we noticed when we walked through the doors was the hour long line! Wow, I've...
Hollywood Studios is now offering dessert trays for those going to see Fantasmic! and wanting something more than just popcorn.
There are a number of restaurants in Hollywood Studios which get much attention from Walt Disney World (WDW) guests. Some of this attention is due to their great menu, great theming, or great reviews, but, let's be honest: restaurant traffic has a lot to do with the restaurant being at the right place at the right time. Because I feel Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano too often goes unnoticed by WDW guests, I thought I'd spend some time discussing why you should give this restaurant a try.
Firstly, I don't think you'd find Mama Melrose's unless you were specifically looking for it, so let me start off by telling you where exactly it is! You will find it in the Muppet Courtyard, behind Star Tours and Muppet 3D. Its outdoor facade blends so well into the rest of the area, that, again, you probably won't even notice it unless you are scanning the brick walls for its sign. Even after reading about Mama Melrose's...
Today marks the ninth anniversary of the opening of Studios Central! 9 years ago today, MGMStudios.org opened with the hope of becoming the online source for everything Studios. Today, we're closer than ever to realizing that dream.
This past year, I really think the site has grown a lot and we're reaching the most readers in our site's history. We've added some new columnists and bloggers to the staff and their dedication to writing and sticking to their schedules has been exemplatory and I have no doubt that the success of this site can be attributed to their passion. To all of our staff, I thank you for another great year of help.
I've always enjoyed the regular readers of this site that frequent our articles, in-park meet ups, blogs and other projects. It means a lot when you spend hours writing an article or planning something fun and you can see people enjoying it. Thank you to all of...
If you're headed down for weekend one of Star Wars Weekends 2011, you'll have plenty of time in Hollywood Studios. Disney has extended the park hours to open at 8am and close at midnight. These are the sort of park hours we see on July 4th or Christmas.
There's no indication yet that the Star Wars Weekends events will run any later than usual but we assume the combination of Star Wars Weekends and the opening of Star Tours 2 has forced Disney's hand to up the park hours.
In addition, the park hours for May 28, which is during Weekend 2 of Star Wars Weekends, has been extended to midnight.
To all those planning a trip around Star Wars Weekends 2011, we're pleased to announce we're once again hosting a series of Star Wars Weekends planning chats. These chats are friendly and fun opporunities to ask questions about Star Wars Weekends to a panel of Star Wars Weekends experts. We have people in the chat room that have been to Star Wars Weekends for over 5 years and it's the perfect opportunity to get your questions answered.
If you're a Star Wars Weekend veteran, we'd love to have you drop by as well to help out the newer people as well as discuss some advance Star Wars Weekends strategies!
Here is the schedule of chats:
Friday, May 6, 2010
Time: 8:00pm EST
Sunday, May 15, 2010
Time: 9:00pm EST
We're excited to host this once again and hope to see you in our chat room!
When you combine two young children and must-do thrill rides at Hollywood Studios, you get child swap... or you just don't ride. While I've made it clear in a previous post that I will only child swap for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (I just think it takes up too much precious park time for both parents to ride separately), my husband sees things differently. He really likes to ride the thrill rides at each of the parks. So, while he gets to ride Rock 'N' Roller Coaster (RnR), I get lots of uninterrupted husband-free shopping time (ie. the best kind of shopping!).
I thought I'd spend some time this week discussing my favorite places to shop at the The Studios and let you know why I like shopping there. I will stick to the Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard area, since that is as far as I usually venture off while my husband is riding RnR. I have to say, the shopping in this area of The...
There's some new streetmosphere in Hollywood Studios to check out starting today. The new "modern day film crew" is a group of street performers similar to the Citizens of Hollywood, except they are based on the Streets of America and are not set in the 1940s. These performers are set in the modern day and here's a video of their first bit.
So what do you think? Are you excited to see this new group of street theater performed on your next trip?
This article is long overdue. Partially due to scheduling conflicts, but most because I don't want to finish and publish it. If I publish it, that makes it final, and I don't want this to be true.
Over the past couple months we have been reporting on all the changes coming to Disney Hollywood Studios' Streetmosphere troupe, the Citizens of Hollywood. Probably the biggest upset of them all was the shocking announcement that fan favorite, Hollywood's Next Leading Man Bucky Greenhorn, was leaving. I had the bittersweet pleasure of being present for his last day, and got an exclusive first look at what's next for our ukelele superstar.
It started that Friday at 4 o'clock, with Bucky's last concert. As I set up my camera at...
