Hollywood Studios Blog

A POP, skip and a jump away!

If you are like the many visitors to studioscentral.com, and enjoy spending most of your Walt Disney World vacation at Disney's Hollywood Studios (DHS), doesn't it make sense to stay close to "home"?
Assuming you're dead set on carrying over the Disney magic to your sleeping quarters (as I firmly am), you'll be staying on Disney property. When trying to decide on a resort close to DHS, you have many Disney resorts to choose from (even though DHS doesn't have an official "resort area"). If you want the convenience of being able to walk to your resort from DHS (approximately 15 minutes away by foot) or to take a boat, you can stay at one of the Epcot-area resorts: Boardwalk Inn, Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin, Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort. Keep in mind, however, that these resorts are all "Deluxe Disney Resorts", and if you're planning to pay rack rates, these resorts can carry a pretty hefty price tag. If walking isn't much of a priority, and you have a car or are planning to rely on Disney transportation, a cheaper option would be the Caribbean Beach Resort (approximately 5-10 minute Disney bus ride to DHS). This is a "Moderate Disney Resort" (read: less amenities, smaller rooms, poorer location than a Deluxe resort).
There is still one more resort that would put you very close to the action at DHS (approximately 5-10 minutes away by Disney bus transportation). POP Century Resort is very near and dear to my heart. It is the first Disney resort that my husband and I stayed at, and it is a big reason why my husband was won over by Walt Disney World (I was won over many, many years ago!).This is a "Value Disney Resort", but the only thing "value" about it, is the price tag! In my opinion, POP Century definitely provides the most value for your money. You can enjoy exquisite Disney theming (20th century pop culture), delicious food (a huge variety of it, too! Arguably better selection than I've seen at any Deluxe resort), an extensive shopping center, and 3 very large pools!
While you will lose the frills and space of a Deluxe resort room, if you're looking for a safe, comfortable, clean, adequately-equipped room to lay your head after an exciting day at DHS, POP Century is a perfect resort for you! A very big bonus: POP's dedicated bus service means you'll catch the bus at the general bus stop in front of the resort and the bus won't stop again until you reach the park. No stopping at other resorts or stopping at other areas of your own resort (which would be the case at Caribbean Beach) to pick up passengers, which just adds time to your bus trip and reduces your chances of getting a seat.
In sum, for a DHS-centered trip, if you want the experience of staying at a Disney resort (great atmosphere, theming, food, and location), but don't want to break the bank, Disney's POP Century will not disappoint! Give it a try and let me know what you think.
